What is Chiropractic?

The true goal of Chiropractic is to detect any loss of movement in the spine.  Chiropractic care is known as a spinal adjustment. Adjustments aim to relieve any pressure or interference to the nervous system which allows your innate healing ability to then work properly, fixing your health concerns.

What is a subluxation?

When the spinal bones are not moving correctly or are out of proper alignment we call this a Vertebral Subluxation. A subluxation puts pressure on the spinal cord, spinal nerves and surrounding tissues. This is often the cause of many symptoms people suffer with every day. The startling thing is you don’t always feel a subluxation. It can be present for many years before it gives you a symptom or sign.

Can children have chiropractic treatment?

Kids are natural explorers – they run, jump, climb things, fall down, and bounce around. Kids are resilient – this ability to recover quickly is one of the great benefits of being very young. Occasionally, one of these activity-related injuries impacts a child’s spine. Nothing obvious has happened and nothing hurts. But there may be subtle injuries to spinal muscles and spinal ligaments that have a long-term effect on spinal nerve function.

At The Health Hub Chiro we want little people to be comfortable and to perform at their best. We help them improve their posture and spine. Chiropractors understand that a healthy spine enables a child to grow straight and strong, helps prevent injuries and allows their all important nervous system to do its job properly.

The chiropractic techniques used in our practice typically involve gentle finger tip pressures (the kind you could tolerate over a closed eyelid) and specific massage.

Where possible we highlight things that young people (or parents) can do at home to help, like stretching and strengthening exercises, training activities, ergonomics and nutrition.

Your first couple of visits to the chiropractor will be a little different to a standard appointment. This is so your chiropractor can assess your condition, and recommend the best care for your individual needs. You will find a summary of your first three chiropractic appointments below:

- Initial Consultation
- In-depth health questionnaire review and complete physical examination
- Digital postural assessment
- X-ray (if required)

We may take X-rays to be able to care for you more effectively. Or alternatively, you may be referred to other health care practitioners depending on your individual needs. Our patients are educated to realise the importance of keeping their bodies functional for their entire lives.

- Report of Findings
- In depth review of examination results
- X-ray analysis
- Chiropractic care if required

Our Chiropractor will advise you on the best program for your individual needs so you can get maximum benefit from your adjustments.

Many people seek chiropractic care for a number of reasons, however our goal is to provide you the ability to live an optimally healthy life. Some common experiences that lead others to seek chiropractic include:

If you’re a sufferer of chronic headaches or migraines, you don’t need convincing that they’re one of the most painful, debilitating conditions you could possibly suffer. Millions upon millions of dollars a year are spent on trying to find relief from this crippling illness. But what causes migraines?

Basically it’s a decrease in oxygen to the brain. If the brain receives less oxygen per milliliter of blood, it will simply increase the amount of blood flow to increase the overall amount of oxygen received. In order to increase the amount of blood flow it must dilate the blood vessels that supply blood to the brain. When these vessels dilate, it stretches pain fibres that wrap around the outside of these vessels. When these pain fibres are stretched they are activated and start sending pain signals into the brain, resulting in your perception of pain.

Headaches and migraines may also be caused by a misalignment or dysfunction of a vertebra in the top of the neck. This then causes inflammation and tension of the joints, muscles and blood vessels at the base of the neck, which then transfers pain up into the skull.

Today’s modern living often entails hours of driving and hunching over workstations, which can play havoc with our necks. So it is no surprising that neck pain is a common reason people seek a chiropractor for. This pain results from abnormalities in the soft tissues – muscles, ligaments, and nerves, as well as in the bone and the joints of the spine.

Chiropractors identify and treat soft tissue abnormalities from injury or prolonged wear and tear, and in many people it is also the source of pain in the upper back, shoulders and arms.
When neck pain is caused by muscle strain, you may have aches and stiffness that spread to the upper arm and forearm. Shooting pain that spread down the arm into the hand and fingers can be a symptom of a “pinched nerve” or nerve entrapment in the neck. When a nerve is “pinched” in the neck, numbness, weakness and possibly pain of the hands or arms may occur. Disc injuries are rare but it is the most common cause of nerve entrapments.

Injuries to the neck caused by a sudden movement of the head backwards and forwards or sideways, are referred to as “whiplash”. Whiplash can arise from a car accident, sporting injury or an accident at work. Whiplash is most commonly suffered as a result of a road traffic accident. An impact or collision causes the head to suddenly jerk back and forth beyond its normal limits.

Wear and Tear, Osteoarthritis or Joint Degeneration occurs due to the accumulation of stresses and trauma over time. Throughout life, the spine is required to withstand considerable weight bearing strain, purely as a result of the pressures of daily living. The overall effects of degenerative changes of the spine leads to a feeling of stiffness and reduced spinal mobility. However, just like any other part of the body, the better care that is taken of the spine, the less degeneration is likely to occur.

WHAT IS STRESS?

All stresses can be divided in to 3 different types:

Physical Stress

Things such as trauma or accidents, prolonged incorrect daily posture (such as desk work), repetitive strain or movements in work or play, sports, even the birth process is a stress on a mother and the child.

Chemical Stress

Toxins we are exposed to such as preservatives in food, cigarette smoke, medication, alcohol, drugs, environmental pollutants - and the most common is poor diet.

Emotional Stress

This is due to work pressure and deadlines, arguments with partners or family, life or career changes, relationship or family stresses, not knowing where you are headed in life and even patterns developed by watching family members whilst growing up.

STRESS IS DAMAGING TO YOUR BODY!

Physical stress is the main focus for most Chiropractors. The structure of your spine allows it to cope with daily movements, pressure and tension. When the bones of the spine (the vertebra) become stiff or reduced of proper movement, they can then place pressure on our nervous system. This is devastating to the function of your body as the nervous system becomes impaired. This can lead to the brain and body not communicating properly, which can be the cause of many health complaints.
