Tinnitus

What is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the ears or head that is not caused by an external sound source. Ringing and buzzing sounds may be heard in one or both ears or appear to be generally in the head region.

It’s not an illness or a disease in itself, but it is often a symptom of a problem within the ear or the hearing pathways to the brain. Usually, it occurs when the inner ear is damaged or impaired in some way.

Some potential causes include:

  • Exposure to loud noises
  • Ear infections
  • Head injuries
  • A buildup of ear wax
  • Underlying psychological reasons such as anxiety and depression

These are just a few of the most common causes, but tinnitus can also be a side-effect of medication or a result of other health concerns, such as high blood pressure. It is also commonly associated with age-related hearing loss, although it can affect anyone at any age.

Chiropractic and Tinnitus

When tinnitus symptoms arise most seek Otorhinolaryngology specialist. If nothing is detected and there is no other cause for the symptom, for example calcium carbonate crystals in the ear canal, which is associated with crystal ill, there are many who choose to try conservative treatment with a chiropractor.

There are unfortunately few and weak studies on the effects of manual therapy for tinnitus, this includes unfortunately also chiropractic. We can not say with certainty that this type of treatment works as effectively as we can with back, neck and headache disorders. But there are still several hypotheses on why treatment by a chiropractor can help with tinnitus.

Are Your Kids Practising These Healthy Habits In School?

Back to School
Back to School

Every January, thousands of Australian children return to school where they will be immersed in an environment of learning, playing and socialising. It’s important that their environment supports their health and wellbeing so they can continue to focus on what’s important. Being kids!

Spending hours in the classroom every day, children don’t often think about the impact this has on their spinal health and overall wellbeing. This Back to School season the Australian Chiropractors Association is encouraging children and their families to build positive health habits.

‘Back to School’ is a health initiative by the Australian Chiropractors Association (ACA) that aims to raise awareness on the importance of spinal health in children as they grow and develop.

Visit the Australian Chiropractors Association page for tips on how children can improve their posture while at school.

Chiropractic and Headache Relief

Many studies have been conducted that show a positive result for headache relief when people who are suffering have seen a chiropractor. Chiropractors can implement a few methods to try and lessen the frequency of headaches and the pain that is associated with them.

They may apply spinal adjustment & other chiropractic techniques to improve spinal function and alleviate the stress on your system. They can provide advice, recommending a change in diet and natural supplements & vitamins.

One of the leading causes of headaches is body position and stress. Chiropractors can also give you advice on posture, ergonomics (such as work postures), exercises and relaxation techniques which can help to alleviate recurring joint irritation and tension in the muscles of the neck and upper back.
